@ Work: All suited up for the cold
Another cold front has hit Korea over the last few days, where temperatures plummeted into the sub-zero zone. If you have already been following this blog, you will know that there will be no end to the bitching until probably summer!
Anyway, I'm glad that someone else is more prepared on our site than me.
This is a 'Transmitter'.
Since there is water in it/flows through it, there is possibility of freezing... Long story short ~ It'll stop working, and a power plant could possibly shut down because of this one failure.
"So how?"... you may ask.
"Wrap special heat-tracing cables around it, run electricity through it, and this will heat up and keep it from freezing. Slap on insulation that'll keep the warmth in afterwards lah! That'll stop it from freezing over"... I will answer.
"Oh, so there's like a heater thingy underneath all that goo! But why so ugly wan?? Looks like a cob job where someone just slap some cow shit on there!"... you may ask again.
"Hey ~ this is the first time I'm seeing funky insulation like this too you know! Usually it's nicely wrapped, or they make nice boxes around it and stuff it with fuzzy insulating wool."... I explain.
"How does it look before having all that crap slapped on?"... you wonder.
By the way, this stuff stays on for the rest of its useful life.

Wow..at first glance i tot what's wrong with this thingy looks like a bee wax tho..*LOL*
well, korean r cool..they always do something good for preventive maintainance thingy. unlike us, always wait till something bad happen then only take preventive action.
how i wish my Engineering Team here so pro-active yeah..*grin*
oh yeah..ur defination no. 2 of cob job..make me laff my ass off...*wink*
At first glance that look like some kinda gigantic mutated newt/frog-like thingee with body of pipes.
I wonder which is worse, winter cold or tropical heat cum humidity.
Jo: This insulation on transmitters, are only in countries that have cold weather. Pther big pipes that you might commonly see in Malaysia having a layer of protection over it usually carry hot liquids/gas.
Antonia: Looks kinda gross eh?
Domestic rat: Well, neither. But if you asked me to choose the lesser of two evils, the cold is ok. :)
At 1st glance, thought some insects have decided to make a home there. Ugh! I think I prefer the stars and hearts better...
Gross is an understatement.
BTW, I added you to my reading list. Hope you don't mind! ^_^
Waaah ... i really thought that a bee wax ... lol
Crocky: Welcome... I didn't know you read blogs! *wink wink ~ Bored at work KK?
Antonia: Adding me on people's blog is always welcome. The more the merrier... Join the family!
Louyau: I bet you can't find any bees living in there ;)
