Traffic: Fastest route to work

Over the last two weeks or so, I've been doing 3am starts at work. Hence, I have had the luxuries of having the road all to myself.

There are 5 of us from the same company that take 5 different routes to get to work. We often get into disputes about who does the better, fastest and easiest route with the least traffic.

So I decide to test it out during my early morning drives to work on 5 separate days. Since its hard to gauge what exact effect traffic lights may have on travel times, they are simply assumed. *Traffic lights don't work at 3am in the morning!

Extracts from the report:
  • Baseline time is the time taken for any of the 5 possible routes (see appendix) at 3am, with car driving following the '20kmph-over' principle, with no influence from traffic lights.
  • Traffic lights are (in Korea) for reference only.
  • If travelling during early morning, routes taken on any of Day 1 to 3 are fastest at ~ 26 minutes. NO effect from traffic lights.
  • If travelling during morning traffic, the fastest route would be route taken on Day 5.

Silly engineers... :P
